Air Liquide in the US CCS Project

Air Liquide announced last week that it will develop the world's first large-scale oxygen-enriched combustion power generation unit that can carry out permanent CO2 capture and storage (CCS), and thus received funding from the US Department of Energy. The project will be built at the American Energy Resources Corporation's (AER) Meredosia Power Plant in Illinois. It will capture and store approximately 1.3 million tons of CO2 per year, accounting for approximately 90% of the CO2 emissions of the facility.

Oxygen-enriched combustion is one of the main ways to reduce CO2 emissions from coal and other combustion processes. As part of the clean coal power generation project that the US Department of Energy promises to fund, the project includes the granting of Air Liquide and its technology partners to the US Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group.
