HC Plastics News: Anti-UV polymer additive technology Nouvex passed the US Environmental Protection Agency certification this week, clinically proven to be effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi. According to a press release issued by Purdue University, Nouvex represents a new way to prevent contamination of materials with bacteria for thermoplastics, textiles, powder coatings and coating-based waters and solvents. The technology developed by Purdue University's Materials Engineering Professor has been commercialized by the PolyOne Group.
“Nouvex is different from current chemicals such as triclosan, copper, silver or metal auxiliaries. It can be used as a protective layer for materials in thermoplastic and thermoset plastics, synthetic resins, injection molding, extrusion and powder coatings.†Craig Kalmer, chief operating officer of PolyOne Group, said. The US Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that Nouvex, if used directly, is environmentally safe and acts as a protective layer to protect materials.
The PolyOne Group wrote on its official website that the price of this additive is relatively inexpensive and can be easily integrated during the manufacturing process. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency guidelines, independent testing in the laboratory confirmed that it does not induce resistance, is highly biocompatible, and has very low toxicity. “Using Nouvex means that there will be no infection in the hospital.†This positively charged additive destroys the pathogens it contacts, exhibits sustained vitality and surface durability, and its macromolecular structure ensures that there are no chemical linkages or linkages. Underneath, all have biocompatibility.
The PolyOne Group plans to continue developing this technology with the goal of meeting more restrictions from the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Food Safety Authority as more data is presented. The company has signed a contract to introduce Nouvex technology into the catheter.
By 2020, the global antimicrobial plastics market is expected to be close to $3.6 billion, and the compound annual growth rate is expected to reach 10% between 2015 and 2020. Packaging and medical care are its main application areas, and the demand for the automotive industry is also rising rapidly.
