Japan Designed the First Robot Polyurethane Sensor

Touchence Inc. of Japan recently designed the world's first soft touch sensor that has been transformed into a robot design.

This sensor is made of Shokac Cube, a polyurethane material that detects contact and pressure from three levels. For example, if this material is applied to the robot's cheeks or other body parts, it only needs to be gently touched or squeezed. The Shokac Cube foam covering the robot body can transmit this power to the robot's control system. This foam can make robots have human-like soft skin.

Touchence plans to introduce the Shokac CubeB model in August. The company expects to launch the new Shokac CubeC model in April 2012.
